This is how our system trades the S&P Mini Futures.  The "S&P Mini futures" generally mirrors the "S&P 500 Stock index".  When a sell off or a buy in of stocks occurs in the stock market that is greater than or equal to 70% of the entire S&P stock index, our system buys or sells in the direction of the market.  In other words it either buys a long futures contract and tries to make money going up, or it short sells a futures contract and tries to make money going down.  This indicator has been fairly reliable over the long term though still producing losses.  The system protects it self with a trailing stop just in case the market does reverse in the other direction mid day.  The system trades during the day only and always closes no later than 4:00 pm eastern.
